Prehabilitation otherwise known as ‘prehab’ is strongly recommended prior to any operation. The ultimate aim is to prime and condition your body to be strong and function at your best prior to your surgery. It is quite common to see patients presenting with pain, limitations in their movement patterns and reduced activity leading up to their operation. Overall muscles become weaker and strength, balance, gait all start to deteriorate. There is evidence behind ‘prehab’ that patients who participate in prehab program have significantly better outcomes such as the following:
-
reduced overall functional decline
-
improved independence and satisfaction
-
greater participation in activities of daily living

improve and provide benefits to strength, balance, mobility and and overall function

improved mental strength in preparation for surgery
-
return home in a short time frame

Functional Movement Screen
Christine holds specialised certifications in functional movement. Initially, yes, we treat your source of pain and utilise a hands-on approach to reduce these symptoms however, we do not stop at pain relief. The functional movement screen (FMS) is a tool to identify any limitations or asymmetries in movement patterns that are fundamental to moving well.
Our ultimate aim is to restore your function and movement capabilities.
Aspire Physiotherapy Claremont works in close affiliation with Aspire Fitness which allows you to have access to a functional rehabilitation gym space. This allows our physiotherapist to go beyond treating the symptoms and utilise corrective exercises to restore quality movement patterns.
Human beings are designed to have the capacity to perform these functional movements assessed in the screen. Repeated poor behaviours or injury deteriorate movement quality, can lead to (re) injury and continued movement inefficiencies.
Our expertise in identifying any inefficiencies and restrictions in movement can help direct your exercise program so your informed with activities to avoid, include and/or modify. This will provide you with the management plan to move well.
