PRE AND POST SURGERY REHABILITATION

Aspire Physiotherapy Claremont work closely with leading orthopaedic, spinal surgeons and sport’s doctors of Perth. Our primary aim is to ensure our patients are equipped with the best evidence assessment and treatment strategies both at pre and post-operative stages. Aspire Physiotherapy Claremont provides hands on and exercise rehabilitation programs to maintain and improve your physical function and independence in activities of daily living.

Prehabilitation otherwise known as ‘prehab’ is strongly recommended prior to any operation. The ultimate aim is to prime and condition your body to be strong and function at your best prior to your surgery.  It is quite common to see patients presenting with pain, limitations in their movement patterns and reduced activity leading up to their operation.  Overall muscles become weaker and strength, balance, gait all start to deteriorate. There is evidence behind ‘prehab’ that patients who participate in prehab program have significantly better outcomes such as the following:

  • reduced overall functional decline

  • improved independence and satisfaction

  • greater participation in activities of daily living

  • improve and provide benefits to strength, balance, mobility and overall function

  • improved mental strength in preparation for surgery

  • return home in a shorter time frame

Furthermore, providing education on the procedure of the likely events of hospital admission, surgery, and the types of symptoms that usually follow surgery. This preparation, patients feel comfortable and are equipped with the correct coping strategies and a clear direction of what stage recovery they are in and when they can get moving!
